TNR Command Center

Welcome to The Straygency TNR Command Center — your behind-the-scenes look at how we’re reducing the stray cat population one responsible decision at a time. This page tracks our progress toward our TNR goals, shares field updates and photos from the front lines, and provides transparent reporting on how our TNR grant funds are being used in the community. From mission milestones to real-time impact, you’ll see exactly how your support helps prevent future litters, improve cat welfare, and make our neighborhoods safer and healthier for everyone — cats and humans alike.

In 2025, one of our Cedar Rapids colony projects began with a report of five community cats needing help — and what happened next perfectly captures the power of community. After sharing their story on Facebook on August 15th and asking for help with vetting costs, our incredible supporters fully funded their August 19th spay/neuter and vaccination appointments at Monticello Vet Clinic. Sponsors even helped name the crew: Oscar (a stunning long-haired orange boy), Dallas (a spicy tabby), Precious (a shy calico), Bosh (a wide-eyed tabby girl), and Ballard (a timid orange tabby girl). The return trip home included a memorable detour when Oscar staged a dramatic escape and took refuge under a back seat — but thanks to some expert “cat whispering,” he was safely returned to his outdoor home. Daily feeding and monitoring continued, and by late September tiny cries led us to Birdie, a lone kitten who quickly embraced indoor life in foster care. Soon after, more kittens appeared, and with help from our friends at Hero’s Haven, a larger rescue mission began. Over several days we safely trapped 11 additional kittens — all extremely sick and in need of intensive medical care, fluids, and lots of love. We’re thrilled to share that every one of them has since found a forever indoor home. Today we continue to care for and monitor the colony, ensuring the cats remain healthy and that no new unaltered arrivals move in — a true example of TNR, teamwork, and long-term commitment in action.
